Paddington Square has achieved the prestigious honour of winning Façade of the Year in the New Build UK category at the CIBSE Façade 2023 Design and Engineering Awards. Recognized for its outstanding sustainability, the design prioritizes energy efficiency and commits to reducing emissions in alignment with the ongoing decarbonization of the electricity grid.
A key element of this achievement is the innovative double-skin façade, which significantly diminishes the building’s cooling energy needs. By efficiently capturing and redirecting solar-generated heat through small ventilation pockets, Paddington Square sets a commendable standard in sustainable architecture.
Credit is due to the collaborative efforts of WSP, Mace, Focchi Group, and Adamson Associates Architects, who, in conjunction with the initial design by RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop, have created a crystalline façade described by Partner and Architect Joost Moolhuijze as a “fine lace of steel and glass,” echoing the nearby railway station designed by Brunel.
This accolade is a testament to Paddington Square’s commitment to excellence in façade design and its significant contribution to the advancement of sustainable practices. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
