Kioskafé, a newsstand and coffee bar created by the founders of global media brand Monocle, opens in Paddington today. Inspired by the city-street kiosks of Europe, this 80 sq m space aims to set a new standard in print retailing.
“We want Kioskafé to be a celebration of print – putting the written word, fine images and crisp paper centre stage,” says Tyler Brûlé, Monocle’s editor in chief and now founder of Kioskafé.
In addition to an evolving list of the 300 best newspapers and magazines from around the globe, there will also be a catalogue of print-on-demand newspapers ranging from Albania’s Gazeta Paloma to The Zimbabwe Independent. Customers will be able to order in advance or simply wait while the title prints out.
Catering for locals and visitors alike – plus regulars at the Frontline Club (a favourite with journalists) across the road – Kioskafé is located at 31 Norfolk Place in Paddington.
A short film about the opening and the area can be seen here.
