Karol Doherty, Community Safety Team Supervisor for PaddingtonNow, has helped a local homeless person become a big issue vendor.
On attending a recent Hyde Park Ward neighbourhood meeting, where The Big Issue were invited to speak about how they can help the homeless, Karol was quick to identify Ian, a man in his late 50s who regularly visits the area, as someone who could benefit.
Ian is ex-forces and a trained carpet fitter, who worked for years, but after suffering from two strokes and other health problems he ended up on the streets.
Following Karol’s introduction to the Big Issue, Ian had his first day as a Big Issue vendor in Paddington Station on Thursday 21 November.
Ian buys The Big Issue magazine for £1.25 and sells it for £2.50, meaning he is a micro-entrepreneur who is working, not begging. Please show your support by buying the magazine, saying hello and welcoming him to the area.
We are proud of the Community Safety Team and in particular for Karol’s community spirit and dedication to the job.
